OUR STORY

Welcome to Black Horse Farms, in the historic town of Athens, located in the Hudson Valley of NY, only 20 miles south of Albany, NY on Rt.9-W, or 6 miles north of exit 21 on the New York State Thruway in Catskill.

Black Horse Farm is a true country market, featuring summer annuals, perennials, nursery stock, garden items, decorative pots, gourmet foods, baked items, gifts and the famous fresh produce department carrying organics and regular produce. We are a member of the Pride of New York and purchase honey, maple syrup and many other gourmet products from other New York enterprises.

In our greenhouses, we grow colorful annuals and healthy vegetables and herb plants that will make your garden extremely productive. In the spring, the greenhouses are brimming over with stunning beauty. All plants carry informational tags, which will help you plant and care for your garden. We have plants and nursery items for the sun, the shade, the border, your container pots, and your sunroom and around the pool. On our home farm in Coxsackie we have 42 greenhouses where we grow our plants. Our extensive line of plant specimens will enhance every style of garden and are hardy in our area. Our plants, hanging baskets, house plants, and exotics are showcased in two state of the art greenhouses and the perennial area, roses and nursery yard are adjacent to the north greenhouse.

Our Historic 1864 Remodeled Barn is home to our Gourmet Foods, Bakery, Gifts and our Fresh Produce Farm Market. Our homegrown produce, especially our tomatoes and sweet corn are famous throughout the area. The produce is grown on 800 acres of our family farm, which is located in the Hudson Valley and then delivered fresh daily to our store. The strawberries raspberries and apples are grown on our farm in Scotia, while many local farmers deliver other Hudson Valley fruits to our location.

Our Bakery is renowned for delicious pies, cookies and breads. The gourmet department will suit every palate with new items being featured weekly. Come try our jams and jellies, New York State cheeses and cookies served every weekend for tasting.

We are now open year-round. In the spring we specialize in outdoor gardening, in the summer we showcase our own farm fresh produce and fruits of the Hudson Valley, the fall is our huge pumpkin harvest, and winter is Christmas trees, greens, Fruit Baskets and gifts. So come enjoy the best of nature’s bounty at Black Horse Farms. We look forward to your visit.
